Make your life as simple as reasonably possible.

For example, I have, in the past had up to 8 apps on my phone that I used to communicate.  The problem was that 8 apps is simple too many.  So I developed a rule for myself that I would only check the apps that are native to my phone. i.e. the phone app (missed calls & voicemail) and text message app.  I communicated this to those with whom I communicate and explained that if their matter was urgent, they should use one of those methods to communicate.

More suggestions:

  • Reduce or eliminate notifications that are not timely and relevant in the moment. Most of these will come from mobile devices, but consider other paces this can apply.
  • Put your phone in "Do Not Disturb" mode for specific hours each day or block notifications from specific apps all the time. You can set your favorite contact to ring through even when your phone is set to DND.
